You can increase the tracking (or letter-spacing in css) to add space to each side of each letter, spreading the text out.
The letters are a little too close together and it's making the text hard to read. So you've typed out some words and they look a little too tight. Tracking is the spacing for a sentence or paragraph. Language is weird, so there is a lot of nudging in fonts. Kerning nudges these two letters a little closer to each other |To|. When we put two boxes next to each other, some letters will be unevenly spaced. So imagine every letter is in a separate box. Kerning is the spacing between two letters.
Hinting is special rules that tell the computer how to show the font on a computer screen. The other difference is how each font uses "hinting". You can't see the difference when looking at a font, but it's something a type designer has to think about when drawing the letters. OpenType fonts use Postscript Outlines which is a much easier way for designers to draw fonts. TrueType fonts are drawn using Quadratic Outlines, which is a very formal way of drawing letters. There are two things that make them different:
Either way, it’s great to be familiar with both and know what works well for you.TrueType and OpenType fonts are mostly the same thing. But if you’re budding designer or you’re interested in making fonts of your own, then you should start playing with OTF. If you don’t intend to work with type or create one, you’re going to be fine with just TTF files. For those experiencing issues, do contact the support team or the designer of the font pack. It might also be a good idea to restart your computer after installation, but this is optional. Both OTF and TTF should work on iOS and Windows software. If they don’t, uninstall all the files before installing the TTF versions.
Download the OTF files, install, and see if it works.
It’s recommended that you install ONE file at a time. Plus, you won’t be able to tell the difference – unless you’re a stickler for that sort of thing. This is especially useful for those who have old apps that often only work with TTF. With advanced typesetting features, you’ll be able to experiment and have more fun as you tweak them to your liking.įor typical end users who simply want to download, install, and forget, TTF files will suit you best. For designers and individuals who want more control over customizing their fonts, it’s best to go for OTF files.
